EFFECTS ON BODY.

Raises sperm count and increases fertility in men. Alleviates hot flushes and menopausal distress in women. Reduces risks of heart disease and strokes.
Maintains elasticity of tissues. A deficiecy can produce premature stamina loss and Keshan disease.

DAILY REQUIREMENT

50 micrograms mcg. for women, 70 micrograms mcg. for men, 65 micrograms mcg. for pregnant women and 75 micrograms mcg. for nursing mothers. Men need more than women as nearly half of the body’s Selenium is stored in the testicles and ducts adjacent to the prostate gland.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS.

A trace element Mineral needed for the Thyroid Hormone. If Selenium rich foods are grown in Selenium depleted soil they will not supply sufficient Selenium requirements. Is an anti-oxidant and therefore slows the aging process and hardening of tissues. Is toxic in large doses.
