ELLEN IS FOURTEEN

Birds have wings when, poised to fly,
They soar up into the azure sky;
Fish have fins that cleave the sea
As they move round in tranquillity;
Ellen has legs, both firm and strong,
She needs them to propel herself along;
With muscles toned and breathing sound
Her feet scarcely seem to touch the ground
As she covers mile on mile
Moving with ease and graceful style
To the finish so far away –
But skill and dedication win the day
And she can pace herself to coast
With measured steps to the winning post,
While jubilant family and friends
Whose cheering support has no ends.
Running is living, the effort and ease
Merge together as you breast the soft breeze
And feel in your inner self one
Great fulfilment and pleasure in what you have done.
