The turgid, cloud-like, liquid light
\nSpreads out amorphous fingers in a molten brew
\nBefore the onset of another night
\nWraps a cloak about the shapes of different hue.<\/p>\n
River steamers pass, etched against the shore
\nTrailing effervescent gold dust in their wakes
\nAnd City workers over bridges pour,
\nDark silhouettes, returning for their nightly breaks.<\/p>\n
Eastwards the duller, prosaic view
\nIs lighted by a silvery range
\nTriangulating a Tower that grew
\nAnd has seen eight hundred years of change.<\/p>\n
In aura of its own the Tower glows
\nfrom salvoes of shining shafts cast down
\nThrough gaps in clouds above the river’s flow
\nBestowing as of right a triumphant crown.<\/p>\n
