Porous sponges, soaking impressions up –
\nleeches growing from others’ blood –
\nSampling\u00a0 all the brews from many a cup –
\nHumans, raised from primeval mud.<\/p>\n
Moral questionings, to raise and relate,
\nAs by-products beyond this span,
\nWhen to survive and procreate
\nWas once our only plan.<\/p>\n
Thinking we’ve built it up with logic’s wiles
\nTo forge a new philosophy,
\nyet life still carries on, through tears and smiles,
\nIndifferent to you and me.<\/p>\n
While passing time brings debts and we involve
\nOurselves in the maze still deeper,
\nCaring or indifference, now resolve,
\nCan we be our brother’s keeper?<\/p>\n
As we issue forth, plucked from out some void
\nGiven egos to disport
\nAn hour or two before the sap’s destroyed
\nAnd then recycled to be taught.<\/p>\n
No substitutes, no gain, naught to repay,
\nNothing that was not there, you know
\nIs left alone, in time, to find a way –
\nIf only what is there would show!<\/p>\n
An old man hobbles by and blinks awhile
\ncasting his shadow on to where
\nA young child lights the World up with a smile
\nEach search to see how far they dare.<\/p>\n
