You try too hard to reach the sublime pitch
\nBut life, you know, is not like that at all,
\nThe worst is aiming to avoid the ditch,
\nThe best is that which happens to us all.<\/p>\n
While shadows crowd around the looming day
\nAnd from despair there seems no place to hide,
\nUnless there is some pediment to pay,
\nThe light is waiting there the other side.<\/p>\n
Reaching for the stars is fair enough
\nAnd makes you feel a whole lot better too,
\nThe heart be light although the going rough,
\nAt best keep step, up with the leading few.<\/p>\n
The goal? Ah, there’s the rub. What can you do
\nTo convince yourself that what you do is right?
\nWhen doing right is not the inner you
\nBut something else that hides the inner light.<\/p>\n
Just be. Just be.It needs no brains or skill –
\nThe inner calm that shelters self from all
\nThe fears and dreads that circle round and will
\nEvaporate to nothing actual.<\/p>\n
And though it be a million years away
\nbefore you recognise your precious gift,
\nThe first foot on that waiting path one day
\nYou will set, and from bondage cast adrift.<\/p>\n
